I festeggiamenti degli ebrei a Londra, con molti bambini vestiti come per il nostro carnevale

Giovedì 5 marzo gli ebrei hanno festeggiato in tutto il mondo la festa di Purim, che cade il 14esimo giorno del mese ebraico di Adar e ricorda quando la regina Ester e suo cugino Mardocheo sventarono il piano di Amàn – consigliere del re persiano Assuero – per uccidere tutti gli ebrei dell’impero. Il Regno Unito ospita la seconda comunità ebraica più grande d’Europa (la prima è in Francia) e la quinta di tutto il mondo: molti ebrei scappati alle persecuzioni negli anni sono andati a vivere a Londra, per cui in città ieri era facile imbattersi in persone che festeggiavano in giro. Durante il Purim, che viene preceduto da un giorno di digiuno, le persone banchettano, si scambiano cibi e bevande, fanno la carità e leggono il libro di Ester. C’è anche l’usanza di indossare maschere e costumi e di partecipare a sfilate simili a quelle del nostro carnevale.
