Domenica 8 febbraio si è tenuta allo Staples Center di Los Angeles la 57esima edizione dei Grammy Awards, i più famosi premi discografici statunitensi. Il premio per il miglior disco dell’anno (e per il miglior album rock) è stato assegnato a Beck per Morning Phase, mentre Sam Smith ha vinto quattro premi: miglior artista emergente, canzone dell’anno e “record of the year” (un premio tecnico per la produzione) per la canzone Stay with me e miglior album pop vocale per In the lonely hour. Pharrell Williams e Beyoncé hanno vinto invece tre premi a testa: miglior performance pop e miglior video per Happy e miglior “Urban Contemporary Album” per Girl il primo, e miglior performance R&B, migliore canzone R&B per Drunk in Love e “Best Surround Sound Album” per Beyoncé. Eminem è stato premiato per il miglior album rap dell’anno, mentre il premio per il miglior disco di alternative rock è andato a St. Vincent.

Oltre alla premiazione come sempre la cerimonia ha previsto moltissime esibizioni, tra cui quella di Madonna, che ha presentato per la prima volta live il nuovo singolo Living for Love; quella di Rihanna con Paul McCartney e Kanye West, che hanno cantato FourFiveSeconds; quella di John Legend e Common con Glory, canzone nominata agli Oscar; e poi quelle degli AC/DC, di Beck con Chris Martin e di Pharrell Williams insieme al compositore Hans Zimmer. Durante la serata ci sono stati anche due momenti più “seri”, con il messaggio del presidente Barack Obama contro la violenza domestica e un ricordo dell’attore Robin Williams.
