È morto Joe Cocker

Joe Cocker, famosissimo cantante di rock, pop e blues, è morto lunedì a 70 anni mentre era nella sua casa in Colorado. La notizia è stata confermata dal management di Cocker alla rete britannica ITV.

Sony Music have released a statement on Joe Cocker’s death at the age of 70.

John Robert Cocker, known to family, friends, his community and fans around the world as Joe Cocker, passed away on December 22, 2014 after a hard fought battle with small cell lung cancer. Mr. Cocker was 70 years old.
Joe Cocker was born 5/20/1944 in Sheffield, England where he lived until his early 20’s. In 2007 he was awarded the OBE by the Queen of England.
His international success as a blues/rock singer began in 1964 and continues till this day. Joe created nearly 40 albums and toured extensively around the globe.

The statement added that Mr. Cocker is survived by wife Pam, of Crawford; his brother Victor of Norfolk, England; his step-daughter, Zoey Schroeder and two grandchildren, Eva & Simon Schroeder.

Joe Cocker era nato a Sheffield, in Inghilterra, nel 1944. Le due canzoni che lo hanno reso famoso in tutto il mondo a distanza di molti anni sono una cover di “With a little help from my friends” di cui è leggendaria l’esecuzione al festival di Woodstock nel 1969, e una di Randy Newman – “You can leave your hat on” – usata per una scena popolarissima del film “Nove settimane e mezzo” nel 1986.
Ma intorno a questi due enormi successi Joe Cocker – con una voce particolarissima e inconfondibile e una presenza scenica altrettanto unica che aveva reso celebre il suo modo di agitarsi intorno al microfono – è stato un grande cantante rock e blues per diversi decenni, ottenendo anche notevoli risultati di vendite, per esempio con la canzone “You are so beautiful” (usata questa nella colonna sonora di “Carlito’s way”).
